Swedish Massage

Massage is recognised as one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts nearly 4000 years ago. Touching is a natural human reaction to pain and stress, and for conveying compassion and support. Massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing, and manipulating the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It offers a drug-free, non-invasive approach, based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. It encourages the release of endorphins, which is the body's natural painkiller and is widely offered to treat chronic illness, injury, and recovery from surgery.

Experts estimate that up to 90% of disease is stress-related. The physical changes massage brings to your body can have a positive effect in many areas of your life, besides promoting relaxation and decreasing anxiety. It is effective in lowering your blood pressure and increasing circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into the tissues and vital organs.  Massage stimulates the flow of lymph, the body's natural defense system to fight infection, which helps aid better sleep, reduces fatigue, increases your energy levels, and positively influences health and well-being.

There are many different styles of massage. Swedish Massage is a more gentle form than some, using long strokes, kneading, and circular movements. Deeper pressure is applied to remove knots and release tension in the muscles.
